We are deeply saddened to report a devastating earthquake that has struck Herat, Afghanistan, resulting in the loss of over two thousand lives and leaving many more individuals severely injured. As the relief and recovery efforts continue, it is expected that the number of lives lost will increase further. This natural disaster has worsened an already dire humanitarian situation in the affected areas and has left a trail of destruction, with numerous homes reduced to rubble, and the affected population, including women, children, and elderly individuals, forced to spend their nights outdoors, exposed to the uncertainties of their circumstances.

While the full impact is being assessed by the relevant organizations, the immediate priority in the aftermath of this tragedy is to provide urgent assistance to those affected by the earthquake. We earnestly appeal to countries around the world and donor agencies and organizations to extend their urgent support to the people of Herat, Afghanistan, in their time of dire need.

The situation on the ground is critical, and the needs are immense. We are appealing to the international community to contribute generously to humanitarian efforts, including the provision of shelter, medical supplies, food, clean water, and essential healthcare services, to alleviate the suffering of the survivors. Additionally, resources for search and rescue operations are urgently required to save lives and provide the injured with the care they urgently need.
