Statement on the Recent Incidents of Mistreatment of Afghan Migrants in the Islamic Republic of Iran

۹ August 2024

The Coordination Council of the Diplomatic and Consular Missions of of the Islamic Republic
of Afghanistan expresses profound concern and deep sadness over the recent incidents of
mistreatment of Afghan migrants in Iran. The heart-wrenching case of an Iranian police
officer inflicting brutal violence on a young Afghan boy, resulting in serious injury, has
particularly stirred our conscience and necessitates an immediate and appropriate
investigation.

This act violates not only the basic human rights and Islamic values but also the principles
of good neighborly relations, dignity, and respect that should be afforded to every individual,
irrespective of their nationality or immigration status.

While appreciating the decades of hospitality that the Islamic Republic of Iran offered to
millions of Afghans, we call upon the relevant Iranian authorities to conduct a thorough and
transparent investigation into this tragic event, ensure that justice is served, and take
adequate measures to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future. Furthermore, we
urge the Iranian government to protect the rights and well-being of Afghan migrants on their
soil.

We are committed to advancing the safety, dignity, and human rights of our fellow
compatriots everywhere, and we will continue to advocate for the protection and humane
treatment of Afghan migrants worldwide.
