Information on obtaining Confirmation of Marriage

A marriage certificate or Nikah documentation is issued by the consular section of this embassy in the following three cases. Respected applicants are kindly requested to carefully review all the points below and visit the embassy with the required documents after completing all relevant steps.

Case 1:

Couples who have already performed a religious marriage (Nikah), their marriage continues to date, and both parties are currently in Sweden or Finland should meet the following conditions and visit the embassy:

  1. Presence of both spouses at the embassy.
  2. Submission of the original and a copy of both spouses’ ID cards or passports.
  3. Submission of the original and a copy of residence cards from the host country.
  4. One passport-sized photo of each individual, including spouses and witnesses.
  5. Two witnesses and three declarants with identity documents and photos.
  6. Religious or customary marriage certificate or birth certificates of children (if applicable).
Case 2:

Couples who have performed a religious marriage (Nikah) but one of them is outside Sweden or Finland must meet the following conditions and visit the embassy with the relevant documents:

  1. A formal power of attorney from the spouse who is not present in Sweden or Finland.
  2. Presence of two witnesses with identity documents.
  3. Submission of a religious or customary document proving the marriage (e.g., customary marriage documents).
  4. Submission of the original and a copy of both spouses’ ID cards or passports.
  5. Submission of the original and a copy of residence cards or permits from the host country.
  6. One passport-sized photo of each individual, including spouses and witnesses.
Case 3:

Couples who are both in Sweden or Finland and wish to marry must comply with the following requirements:

  1. Presence of both spouses at the embassy.
  2. Submission of the original and a copy of both spouses’ ID cards or passports.
  3. Submission of the original and a copy of residence cards from the host country.
  4. One passport-sized photo of each individual, including spouses and witnesses.
  5. Submission of a valid certificate of celibacy from the Swedish or Finnish tax authority issued within the last six months.
  6. Proof of no legal or religious barriers to the marriage with a consent letter from the bride’s guardian.
  7. Two witnesses with valid identity documents and photos.
Issuance of the Document
  • Fee: The fee for Marriage certificate is 2000 SEK or 180 Euro payable via bank transfer.
  • Same-day Issuance: Once all requirements are fulfilled, the certificate will be issued on the same day during working hours.
