How to Obtain a Birth Certificate

Afghan nationals residing in Sweden or Finland can apply for a birth certificate at the Embassy of Afghanistan in Stockholm

Important Information and Guidelines
  • Applicants must visit the embassy in person. This document cannot be processed or issued in the applicant’s absence or by mail.
  • Applications are accepted during the embassy’s official working days and hours.
Required Documents​

To apply for a birth certificate, the following documents are essential:

  •  Afghan ID (Tazkira) or Passport: Applicants must bring the original Afghan ID or passport along with copies to the consular section.
  • Marriage Certificate: Adult applicants who wish to obtain a birth certificate must present a valid document, such as an official marriage certificate of the parents, in which the names of the children are recorded and the relationship between the applicant and their parents is clearly indicated.
  • Hospital Document:If a child is born in Sweden or Finland, the parents must first visit the embassy with their marriage certificate and the hospital document to register their newborn in the book of births abroad. After that, they can proceed with obtaining an official birth certificate:
 
  • Residence document in Sweden or Finland: Applicants must provide a copy of their residence or ID card, with both sides visible.
  • One passport-sized photo: Applicants must provide a recently taken photo with a white background.

Certificate Issuance

The certificate will be issued on the same day after completing the following steps:

  • In-person interview: Applicants must participate in a mandatory in-person interview at the embassy, where their documents will be reviewed based on the submitted materials and information provided.
  • Fee: The birth certificate fee is SEK 1,100 or EUR 100. Payments can be made via bank transfer.
  • Same-day issuance: Once all requirements are fulfilled, the certificate will be issued the same day during working hours.
