Statement of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Stockholm on the Passing of Pope Francis
The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Stockholm expresses its profound sorrow and condolences on the passing of Pope Francis, the late leader of the global Catholic Church, to the international community, followers of the Catholic Church, and all peace-loving individuals.
During his leadership, Pope Francis was a symbol of empathy, justice, and advocacy for the oppressed. He consistently emphasized the necessity of mutual respect among religions and, in a meeting with representatives of the Afghan community in Italy, firmly condemned the misuse of God’s name to justify hatred, discrimination, and violence in Afghanistan.
Pope Francis supported Muslims and oppressed minorities, including those in Afghanistan, Syria, Palestine, etc, consistently voicing for justice and peace. He stood against devastating wars, racial and religious discrimination, and human suffering, calling for an end to violence and the promotion of dialogue among nations and religions.
The Embassy of Afghanistan in Stockholm, while expressing sympathy with all followers of the Catholic Church and the global community, honors the memory of Pope Francis and hopes that his path in promoting peace, peaceful coexistence, and the defense of human rights will continue.
May his soul rest in peace, and may his path be followed.
